What to expect from therapy
Therapy provides a space and framework for looking at your life in an open-ended and non-judgemental way. Working with me means exploring whatever feels important or of concern to you in the moment.
You may come to therapy with a clear sense of what you would like to explore, which can provide a useful starting point for our work together. It may also be that you don't know exactly what is bothering you, or that you are simply curious to better understand yourself and your place in the world.
Ultimately, the most important thing in a therapeutic relationship is that you feel listened to and understood. Therapy is an ongoing conversation and collaboration.
Who I work with
I work with people struggling with trauma, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, identity, LGBTQ+ issues, men’s issues and a range of other concerns.
I am also trained to work with boarding school survivors, and male survivors of intimate partner violence.
How I work
An integrative therapy combines different therapeutic approaches depending on what feels most helpful for you and for the relationship we are building. With me, these approaches include:
Psychodynamic therapy
Psychodynamic approaches hold that your earliest experiences significantly shape the person you later become. By exploring your past and present relationships, as well as patterns in your thoughts, feelings and behaviour, you can better understand those points at which you feel most stuck. Psychodynamic therapy makes room for memories, associations and dreams in the work of attending to feelings that are often difficult to engage with directly.
Person-centred therapy
Person-centred therapy is about empowering individuals to move towards personal growth under conditions of empathy and non-judgement.
Existential therapy
Existential therapies work on the basis that our present anxieties form an important part of who we are. They are about helping you to explore your place in the world and to discover personal meaning within that.
